The First Annual Alumni Cruise
It may be the one giant step that's needed to bring together alumni from Sojourner-Douglass´ six academic centers. In June, four alumni from the Baltimore campus flew to Miami and boarded The Fascination, a cruise ship, which took them to Nassau, Bahamas on the National Alumni Association's first annual cruise. The cruise was organized to establish a stronger relation between alumni from S-DC's six academic centers.
The idea was thought of by Dean Shirley Evans (´79) and executed by Vernetta Aziz (´85). Ms. Aziz was joined by her husband, Kareem Aziz, S-DC Director of Institutional Research and Planning, Barbara Wood (´96) and Ivory Sanders (´95).
After arriving in the Bahamas for the 4-day weekend excursion, the foursome was met by Nassau alumni member, Rashida Simmons. Following a tour of the Bahamas campus, the group joined other Bahamian alumni at the home of Ms. Theresa Moxley-Ingram, who served a Bahamas spread, which included conch fritters and Bahamian punch.
Ms. Aziz and Ms. Carolyn Echols (´78), President Simmons´ Executive Administrator, are planning to launch a much larger cruise next year. Anyone interested in Cruise 2007, should contact the National Alumni Association at its new Web site: sdcalumni@host.sdc.edu.
